Applications open for Manager at Te Mata Park Trust
Applications are now open for the position of Manager at Te Mata Park Trust. A key member of a small team, this part time position is instrumental in the delivery of the Park Trust’s objectives. The role involves a wide range of duties however the main focus is on operational & project management, governance and administrative tasks.
Key responsibilities:
- Oversees all aspects of Park management including planning, budgeting, contractors, programme of works, maintenance, pest control, safety and more.
- Ensures that all laws, regulations, and standards are met in the operation of the Park, in conjunction with the Trustees and Sub Committees.
- Attends all TMPTB meetings when required, including Sub Committee and Council meetings. Prepares the necessary agendas and minutes, when required, and ensure timely distribution to Trustees and other volunteers.
- Monitors and manages issues associated with park user experience, whilst being cognizant of the Park’s elevated cultural significance and ecological importance.
- Manages the financial and administrative tasks, including budgets, assessment of revenue channels and payment of creditors.
- Manages all Park contracts and agreements, including Peak House tenants, Grazier, Triple Peaks organisers, etc.
- Collaborates and fosters good relationships with all key stakeholders including Council, Mana Whenua, QEII National Trust and other non profit entities.
- Ensures all systems, digital tools, policies and governance processes are relevant and up to date.
- Internal Communications. Ensures Trustees and other stakeholders are kept informed of projects & issues, when relevant & required.
- Manages and responds to all incoming correspondence. The Manager is the first point of contact for the Park Trust.
- Manages various ad hoc projects, as directed by the Board.
The role of the Manager is to help facilitate efficient decision making of the Board. The Manager will help identify & manage issues arising and ensures that the Board’s responsibilities are dealt with in a constructive manner.
Preferred abilities and experience:
- Approx 25-30 hours per week on average. Over school holidays, hours are likely to be reduced. There is flexibility.
- Availability to work occasional weekends, to help manage Volunteer Days.
- Ability to work remotely and collaboratively in a team, and have the initiative to work independently, meeting deadlines when required.
- Experience in managing small teams of co-workers.
- Self-starter who enjoys a new challenge and willingness to ‘get hands dirty’.
- Good attention to detail, good writing skills and preferably experience in working with media.
- A basic understanding of accounting principles is preferable.
- Comfortable with a limited amount of public speaking.
- A practical mindset and willingness to learn quickly about the operational management of the Park. Some understanding of native flora, fauna and track maintenance is preferred.
- A keen interest in environmental management, volunteer management and working alongside education providers & other community entities.
- Ability to juggle several projects simultaneously and work under pressure.
- A strategic mindset and ability to ‘think outside the square.’
- Good computer skills – Microsoft Office suite preferable.
- Ability to work with a range of people in a professional manner and exercise diplomacy & discretion when required.
- Familiar with Te Mata Park. An appreciation of our wide range of park users.
- A positive open-minded attitude and drive to create change for the benefit of our environment and community.
- Understands of the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and keen interest in weaving te reo through communications, and consulting Mana Whenua for a multitude of projects.
This position reports to the Chairperson.
The Funding & Grants Coordinator (PT) and Marketing & Communications Coordinator (PT) report directly to the Manager.
This is a self employed contracted position that is paid monthly at an agreed hourly rate. Renumeration is to be discussed and pending skills/experience of applicant.
Start date is subject to discussion – however it is preferred that work begins in November or December 2022, if possible. Training will be given.
