It’s an exciting time for all park users.
The planning phase for the new land is well underway. We are talking to various Charitable Trusts about funding for the track work, native tree plantings and signage. The responses have been overwhelmingly positive.
Last week, The Surveying Company HB generously donated their time and resources, and surveyed the new land. This mapping will enable us to create a professional and detailed landscaping map. Once the draft plan is completed, we will invite feedback from park users.
The Trustees recently visited the land thanks to a guided tour from the current owner. We are planning the layout of tracks, that will complement our existing network. There are some trees that will remain, however we intend to remove the exotics and replace with native trees. We also visited the Maori lookout point, dugout pit and possible kainga. We peered down the cave and pondered on the best location for the proposed Sculpture Walk. The scope for this land, in terms of variety of tracks, is quite remarkable. We can’t wait to open it to the public!
The settlement date for the new land is not until 31 July, so we are unable to begin work on the land until after then. However, all the planning is happening now!
Once we start the work, it will be ‘all hands on deck’! If you wish to volunteer your time for plantings / weed removal etc, then we would be delighted to hear from you. Please email Emma on info@tematapark.co.nz if you are interested in assisting.
Whilst we have reached our first goal of $1.25 million to buy the land, we are continuing to receive donations, for the projects on the land. Hence, the deadline for GiveaLittle has been extended to 31 July 2019.
We will endeavour to keep you informed as the project progresses.
Please also note that access to the land is strictly PROHIBITED at this current stage. The land is currently still owned by Dr. David Jacks. We ask you to please respect this. Thank you.
Many thanks for your outstanding support.
